Neil Patrick Harris Twins- How I Met Your Surrogate Mother
By Delwyn Lounsbury
Neil Patrick Harris and boyfriend David Burtka announced that they had fraternal twins on October 12, 2010 by surrogate mother.
Remarkably, the surrogacy procedure saw each have one of their sperm take and produce a baby. The fraternal twins, a boy and a girl, were named Gideon Scott and Harper Grace. It is unknown, at this time, which one is whose. It is certain that each of the fathers sired a child by in vitro fertilization. Of course, a DNA test would tell which. They may never want to know. How lucky to be able to both share in the fathering process. They all live in their famous fathers Hollywood Hills home in Los Angeles, California
A TV show star on the long running How I Met Your Mother, actor Harris, 37, remarked to People Magazine, "We found an egg donor anonymously through a hilarious process of looking at people's profiles and then an amazing surrogate who had helped same-sex couples before."
David Burtka, who quit acting recently to become a chef, added; "When we first found out it was fraternal twins, we were thrilled."
Elton John, 63, and his civil partner David Furnish, 48, announced recently that they had a baby boy by surrogate birth, Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John, born on December 25, 2010. The baby born in California was 7 pounds and 15 ounces.
Zachary was born to an unidentified birth mother that was not the biological mother but had carried the baby after being implanted with a donor egg coming from another anonymous woman. This means that little Furnish-John, in a sense, has two fathers and two mothers. It is speculated that Furnish's sperm was used, since he is younger.
Reports are that they chose California because there are more certain laws on surrogacy, especially when it comes to gay and lesbian parents seeking surrogate mothers. There are no laws banning or against surrogacy here in California where we also have a California commercial surrogacy agency.
On Christmas Day Neil Patrick Harris wrote on Twitter, "Great - Congratulations to David Furnish & Elton John on the birth of their son Zachary! Can't wait for play dates in the south of France."
Harris and Burtka recently moved to a more child appropriate home in the Hollywood hills and have a new nursery with no less that an old time Disneyland theme park decor.
Neil Patrick Harris, (born June 15, 1973) is an American actor, singer and even magician. His prominent roles include the leading TV role in, Doogie Howser, M.D.(Golden Globe nomination), Colonel Carl Jenkins in Starship Troopers, a fictitious version of himself in the Harold and Kumar series, the title role in Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog and, of course, the current TV series, as the womanizing Barney Stinson in How I Met Your Mother. He hosted the 63rd Tony Awards on June 7, 2009 and on August 2010 he won two Emmy Awards. Harris volume of work has too many other appearances to mention here. He has been named one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people in 2010.
Harris is openly gay, confirming that in November 2006 saying, "I am happy to dispel any rumors or misconceptions and am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest and feel most fortunate to be working with wonderful people in the business I love."
Those interested in surrogacy should be aware that a 1993 California gestational surrogacy court case (Johnson v. Calvert) awarded the intended parents all rights to a surrogate born child. Ever since there has been good court acceptance. The birth certificate will have the intended parents names.
In 2005 the California Supreme Court decided three cases together that had to do with lesbian couples who had reproduced using surrogacy. The court ruled that under the the Uniform Parentage Act - two women can be the legal parents of a child produced through surrogacy.
This ruling presumably applies to the rest of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community. Since these court rulings are now case law, this makes California the land of opportunity for infertile people around the world plus gay surrogacy, lesbian surrogacy and same sex parenting.

Shield Removed-Elton John Baby Magazine Cover Censored.
by Delwyn Lounsbury
The censorship was quickly reversed by the store when the tweets started tweeting all over twitter.
UPDATE: The Arkansas supermarket has reversed it's decision Wednesday to hide a magazine cover showing Elton John and his same-sex partner David Furnish holding their new baby.
Harps Food Stores President Kim Eskew released this statement: "When we began receiving complaints at our corporate office, we reviewed the magazine in question, removed the shield and are selling the magazine in all our locations today without any cover," Eskew said Wednesday. "Our true intention is not to offend anyone in our stores and this incident happened at just one of our 65 locations, which, when brought to our attention, we reversed."
Remarkably, an Elton John baby magazine cover was censored by
placing a plastic "Family Shield" over the magazine rack at one
supermarket in Arkansas. It was removed, but the incident got
major media attention and buzz on the internet.
The US Weekly cover features a picture of Elton John, civil partner David Furnish and their new baby born by surrogate mother Zachary. One Harps supermarket chain store (65 stores in Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma) censored it by placing a "Family Shield To protect young Harps shoppers" plastic cover in front of the magazine rack.
After first answering with "no comment" the shield has been apparently removed.
A twitter message went out to celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres, Anderson Cooper and Neil Patrick Harris, asking them to bring attention to the matter.
PopEater's - Naughty But Nice - Rob Shuter reported that the cover sold poorly and he wondered if America was ready for "two men and a baby." He said, "We can let out families watch 'Jersey
Shore' but not see a picture of Elton, his partner and their beautiful baby boy."
Apparently, every Harps store is equipped with plastic shields they put up on a store-by-store basis whenever customers complain about the content of a magazine cover.
Sir Elton John and David Furnish's son was born by surrogate mother on Christmas Day, 12/25/2010. Zachary is the first child for Sir Elton John, 62 and Furnish, 48. They have been married since 2005 and have lived together for 12 years.
Back in October actor Neil Patrick Harris and boyfriend David Burtka had twins (a boy and a girl) by surrogate mother. Remarkably, the procedure saw each of their sperm father a child probably using in vitro fertilization then implanting the eggs in the mothers womb. You can read an article I wrote about that miraculous event if you google "Neil Patrick Harris & How I Met Your Surrogate Mother" or go to my web site.
We are a California commercial surrogacy agency.
Let's not stand in the way of our citizen's right to happiness.
No mater what their sexual orientation.
I also want to mention the absolute stone age treatment of Islamic women in many regions of the world. Women are still being treated as second class citizens in the Muslim faith. They are not allowed to have their own life, vote and other freedoms of their male counterparts. They are treated as slaves and not allowed to drive a car, vote, go out with their friends and are still being stoned to death for adultery. My belief is breaking this barrier would go a long way toward easing tensions and reversing Islamic extremes troubling modern day society. Women want a better world for their children. Help them in that cause. Lobby for their emancipation! The strict IsLamic sharia' law hurts both men's and women's freedom and liberty.
Sharia' is cruel and oppressive. It's TYRANNY!
