The cost of surrogacy is higher than that of an egg donor fee because you are dealing with a longer and more complicated process. Egg donor fees can range from $4,000 to $30,000 according to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) guidelines. Commercial surrogacy agencies charge between $10,000 and $23,000 for all they do to coordinate finding a surrogate mother.
The cost of surrogacy can be lower if the surrogate mother has medical insurance of her own or if she or her husband are in the military.
You will want a program that will support both you and the surrogate mother from match to birth and more. The cost of surrogacy for just the mother is usually between $15,000 and $30,000 depending on if she has insurance or not. The second or third surrogate motherhood would mean $5,000 more each successful surrogacy. So, it is $35,000 or so for third successful surrogacy. Additional compensation for surrogacy for twins would be in your contract agreement as well.
Remarkably, the cost of surrogacy paid to the surrogate is considered tax free by most because it is considered compensation for "pain and suffering", pre-birth child support or alternatively a donation in the case of egg donors and sperm donation. Also, there is a $10,000 per year donation provision in tax law and most egg donation money paid is below that threshold.
The other variable in the cost of surrogacy is the healthcare provider. Plans offered by Lloyd's of London are $26,000. If the surrogate mother has her own insurance then she may want the best compensation for surrogacy. Many plans have got wise and do not cover the cost of surrogacy.
We are currently seeking military wives 18 to 35 with at least one child. We are placing surrogate wanted ads where wives of servicemen will see them. They are covered by TRICARE. TRICARE covers everything except cost of egg donation IVF (in vitro fertilization) surrogacy. They currently cover the baby delivery expense. For them to change their policy would apparently take an act of Congress, literally. So, with a savings of over $20,000 these women should expect more profit as a surrogate mother.
These wonderful women more than earn their surrogate fee for the "wear and tear" on their bodies and the strain on their families when they become a surrogate mother. It really ends up to be a few dollars per day. They also get some expenses paid like maternity clothing and a monthly incentive to attend surrogate support group meetings.
Compared to adoption the cost of surrogacy is much higher. You are, however, ruled by the saying "You get what you pay for". With surrogacy you can control where the child comes from. One of the benefits of surrogacy is you can carry on your bloodline. Skimping on the quality of the origin of your precious child could have you paying for that decision for the rest of your life. It was a great tragedy in February of 2010 that Marie Osmond's adopted child committed suicide. So, one of the facts about surrogacy is that you have control over the origin of your precious child. Control requires investment. See: surrogacy or adoption?
